Xiaodan Liu, RPT (pronounced Shao-dan’) grew up in Shanghai, China, where she studied violin making and violin performance at Shanghai Conservatory, later becoming a full-time violinist in the Beijing Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. In 1990, she came to Boston to pursue a Masters at BU College of Fine Arts and in the mid '90s worked as a master flute-maker, first at Verne Q. Powell Flutes and then at Brannen Brothers Flutemakers. But Xiaodan had always been fascinated by pianos and in 2004, she embarked on the two-year piano technology program at North Bennet Street School. During this time, she won internship positions at both the NBSS piano shop and at the BU Tanglewood Institute, where she now has an ongoing summer position as Head Technician. Xiaodan has been an independent contractor at Concord Piano since 2009 .
